Katie Noller

Australian Artist

The collection of shapes, colours and patterns of Noller’s work have evolved through her practice in painting on canvas, site specific installations and wall paintings. After completing an Honours degree exploring the extension of the painted plane, she changed direction and began work as a vision therapist.

Through the study of visual perception, the artist learnt that vision is not static, but something that we actively participate in our entire lives. Our perception is something that continues to develop and expand as we experience the world around us. We form judgements of ourselves and others from our accumulated visual experience. In a way, what we see is created from the collective history of what we have seen before.

Having only recently returned to painting, Noller continues to pursue the parallel between the process of deriving meaning from vision and how we interpret art.
